Fishing Web Design and Fishing SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for Fishing Websites

Who ranks #1, #2 , and #3 for “fishing guides” in your trade area? If you don’t know, you should, and here’s why:

The vast majority of charter clients are beginning the search for their next fishing trip on one of the big search engines, Google, Yahoo!, or MSN. When searching, 62% click on a link on the first page. Less than 10% of searchers get past the the third page! Being in the top three results (not pages) is where you want to be for fishermen searching for a guide or outfit in your area.
SEO is the art of getting placed above competitors in Google, Yahoo, MSN, and a few other search engines. There are three primary components of getting top rankings for fishing related or any other websites - and two of them you can do yourself with help.

  1. Creation of an optimized, well structured fishing website
This is the most technical, and most likely will require a professional. Proper title tags, link structure, XHTML/CSS design, and many other geek terms are involved. What is important is that your web designer is familiar with SEO fundamentals becuase it will be the foundation for your web presence.
  2. Relevant, High Quality Content
You are the expert right? Writing good, engaging text for your site is a great start. This will tell search engines like Google what your site is about, and the more the better. On that note, having some sort of content management system (CMS) is a great idea. It will allow you to add fishing reports, blog posts, or testimonials, and will not only increase rankings for your target keywords, but also bring you traffic for seemingly insignificant phrases that nobody else is targeting.
  3. Inbound Links
Inbound links are hyperlinks that point from other websites toward yours. The more the better, but not all links are created equal. Proper linking procedures like choosing anchor text, and getting links from related websites are possible for anyone who can send email or check their bank account online.
