Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Is a beautiful webiste so beautiful if nobody is looking at it? Search engines are not the only way to produce traffic, but they are by far the most effective. Conventional business wisdom dictates that you should spend 10% of your desired revenue on advertising. SEO can increase this ROI by multiples.
Case Study 1:
A recent client had contracted a Flash developer to design an immaculate looking Flash based site with all the bells and whistles… problem was, they came up #43 for their own company name in Google, and weren’t on the radar for their customers search terms.
We did a site redesign, incorporated much of the Flash animation, and they were on the first page within weeks for their primary keywords along with multiple ancillary keywords to boot.
I was amazed when they had a $250,000 contract pending the third week after going live with the site!
This is the power of search engine optimization, to bring massive amounts of qualified prospects to your doorstep.
It sounds so great, but why isn’t everbody doing it? Well, in some industries like Real Estate, they are… or they are falling far behind. But as more and more consumers and decision makers begin their searches on the web, the value of a well run SEO campaign continues to increase. And it’s not just big ticket sales:
Case Study 2:
A couple years ago one of our maintence guys asked how he could profit from the internet, or in short how he could build his business. We set up multiple single page websites dedicated to particular services in his geographic area. Every one of them now ranks number one for his market area for that particular service, or for example the search term “cityname gutter cleaning.” Two years later, hosting and domains cost him a couple hundred bucks a year, and has had to hire two employees to handle the work load!
Now let’s stop the hype, and explain the process, what is possible, and what is not.
- Can my real estate site out rank Realtor.org? No.
- Can my business outperform my competitors in search engine rankings? Yes.
- Can I expect my site to be #1 in Google and other search engines in two months? Maybe.
SEO is more of a art than an science, but it certainly isn’t some sort of voodoo. In some cases, designing a properly coded website is all that is necessary to rank well. In more competitive markets, a more in depth approach is usually necessary.
