We’re offering a 50% discount on all web projects for green businesses from now until Earth Day

That’s right, until April 22, 2010 we’re slashing all web design, SEO, and social media marketing projects in half. As a web design & marketing firm, we’re limited in how much we can recycle, eliminate waste, and cut our carbon foot prints…. so we’ve decided to put our money where our mouth is and try to give eco-friendly businesses a leg up.

How it will work:

We’ll run the same free cost estimates at half our hourly rates for qualifying businesses that commission their project by days end April 22nd, 2010. By qualifying businesses, we mean businesses that make a substantial portion of their revenues by marketing, selling, or producing green products and services. “Substantial” will be at our sole discretion, but we mean to help as many green businesses as we can in hopes that we can make this planet a little cleaner and greener for us and our children.

Why we’re doing it:

While chatting last week, it came up that we’re in little position to green our business aside from offering green hosting, operating a paperless office, and telecommuting – the last two we already do! So we figured that if we can help a few green companies be a little more competitive, or offer their employees a little something extra – then it’s well worth tightening our belts for a couple months to do the right thing.

Limitations:

The program is limited to the first $20,000 in discounted services, if we reach it we’ll be happy to reach out to other firms in order to accommodate as many green companies as we can.

SEO Friendly CSS Galleries

We’re compiling a list of SEO Friendly CSS galleries for designers who are interested in getting a little link love while showcasing their work. To be considered, the galleries must either have a direct, do-follow link from the actual gallery or a direct do-follow link from a sub-page featuring the work.

We’ll update this page regularly, and hopefully provide an Excel download once the list grows a little bit – so feel free to comment with anybody we missed.

GreenBizLocal.com Launches! Brings Green Business Search to Google Maps

Well we just launched GreenBiz Local, a mapping / directory site displaying green businesses across the USA. So far the turnout has been good, and we now have about 5500 businesses from all 50 states.

GreenBiz Local includes a map search function, city/state directory, and a paid upgrade option. The paid option allows users to change their map marker from a little red one to a big, pretty green one as well as a new tab for a business description, and one more for images of the business and/or it’s products.

Does Your Website Look Good? Are You Sure?

Unfortunately, websites display differently on different computers. What may look perfect on your setup, may look horrible on others. The obvious problem with this, is that many of your customers may be running any of them. Websites layout differently due do different browsers, operating systems, as well as the actual website encoding itself. Some computers support a million colors, some support sixteen. Even valid XHTML/CSS designs will jump all over the page in Internet Explorer 6.0!

While diagnosing and fixing problems may or may not be easy, discovering a problem is very easy.

Enter BrowserShots.org to the rescue. BrowserShots allows you to check your web site’s appearance on literally dozens of browser and operating systems for free. You can then either view or download JPG images of how your site lays out in all of them. It usually takes 15-30 minutes to load them, but you can go do something else while it loads.

An example of AmericanVagabondPhotography.com in the Netscape Navigator browser on a Ubuntu Linux operating system. It’s not important that I don’t know what either of those are, what’s important is the site looks clean in whatever they are….

Spanish Translation for your Website; and other languages too!

According to the U.S. Census Bereau, nearly 15% of the American population is Hispanic or of Hispanic descent. Want to communicate with them, but don’t know Spanish? Heck, want to communicate in French, Greek, and Chinese too? Don’t worry, this isn’t a crash corse any any language – not even HTML.

Translate Your Website with Google Language Tools

First, we must get a link to the page we want to translate. Go to Google Language Tools, about a third of the way down to the “Translate a web page” dialog. Simply enter your web page’s address, and choose the language conversion option at the right. Hit enter, and your page in the chosen language should appear.
Next, copy the link and place it in your blog, website, or email.
Whamo, you’ve just learned Spanish, Greek, or Chinese on the web in 10 minutes…

RoswellOfficeCondos.com goes Live

We just wrapped another site this morning, RoswellOfficeCondos.com. It’s a rather simple yet elegant little site, based on the Cleaker 2.1 theme by Adam Walker Cleaveland. Time was money on this one, and by going with a premade WP theme (with some modifications of course) we had it out on the web in 48 hours.
